“Lushan Mt. Misty Rain and Zhejiang Tide”, the Qiantang River Tide is world-famous. The new landmark of Hangzhou Emerging Development Zone – Wangchao Center, its design inspiration comes from the natural phenomenon of Qiantang River and Hangzhou culture. Its shape is novel and unique, resembling a flame rising into the sky. The streamlined curves reflect the elements of Jiangnan water town, and the dynamic contours are as vivid and lively as standing water ripples.
Wangchao Center was designed by the world-renowned design team – the American Skidmore, Owings and Merrill Lynch architectural firm. In order to perfectly present the designer’s work, the project team used BIM technology and actual on-site data measurements, requiring on-site assembly of curtain wall components to solve the problem of difficult positioning of characteristic curtain walls and high-precision high-altitude installation.
At the beginning of 2021, Yaret craftsmen took over the production and manufacturing of this part of aluminum curtain wall materials. Key personnel were drawn from the design, process, and processing departments. After countless process discussions and technical challenges, and 600 days and nights of hard work, the 288-meter Wangchao Center finally rose from the ground. The perfect delivery of the Wangchao Center project was like a baptism for Yaret people.
The 125,000 square meter tower has a unique shape, rising toward the clouds along a pulsating curve, reminiscent of the ripples of the Qiantang River.
It is worth mentioning that the main building has eight giant champagne-colored aluminum plate corner columns. This process is the most complex hyperbolic process in the aluminum curtain wall manufacturing process. Each column is composed of 54 hyperbolic monomers, each of which has an area of about 8 square meters. The hyperbolic surface is carefully polished by craftsmen to achieve smooth unit body lines. The most difficult part is that most of the plates that make up the columns are extra-large 1800*6000mm special-shaped plates, which adopt a unit plate design. Each plate is super wide and super long, and a single plate weighs 130kg, which is equivalent to the weight of 2 adults. Every time the sheet metal is sheeted, the sequence is transferred, and the painting is successfully completed from the spray tunnel, it is very careful and all the operators of Yaret have devoted their efforts.
The installation height of the project construction site is over 200 meters, and the error accuracy does not exceed 3mm. The craftsmen worked day and night to create this 54-story water ripple-shaped building. The appearance of the entire tower is undulating, as if it is constantly flowing.
Wangchao Center strikes a balance between outstanding architectural appearance and clear structure. The collision of Eastern and Western architectural aesthetics creates a city landmark that is more suitable for Hangzhou’s international temperament. The pulsating facade form achieves a harmonious unity of architectural form and structural system. Wangchao Center is like a unique beacon, symbolizing that Hangzhou will become a new global destination in the future.
